Lips are one of the most delicate and attractive part of the body. A smile is contagious and healing at the same time. Most of us take extra care of the lips in winter season but, one should take care of their lips in all seasons to keep them beautiful.

Causes of Dry and Cracked Lips

Dry and chapped lips don’t look attractive. The lipstick application is never smooth with dry lips. Dry lips problems arises due to weather change, vitamins deficiencies, dehydration and some other diseases. Habits like licking the lips frequently, breathing through mouth at night while sleeping.

How to Get Rid of Dry Lips

There are many home remedies which could help you in treating your dry lips. In fact, these tips will also help the smokers with dark pigmented lips.

1. Milk Cream

Mix half spoon of milk cream with few drops of lemon juice and apply it on your lips before going to bed and wash it the next morning. It will help in moisturizing your lips and removes the pigmentation, if there is any. By following this you can get naturally pink lips.

2. Aloe Vera

Massage your lips with the aloe vera pulp or readymade gel. It hydrates the skin and locks the moisture in your lips. Daily use can help in you in achieving soft and healthy looking lips. Take some pure aloe vera gel. Apply and massage gel on your lips. Keep massaging for at least 30 to 40 seconds so that your lips get fully hydrated.  Keeping it overnight is better. In the morning you can wash it, when you wash your face. It is a best home treatment that gives you beautiful smooth lips.

3. Honey

Honey is excellent including the dry and chapped lips. You can take a drop of honey and apply it all over the lips. It can be kept overnight for getting better results in smoothening your dry lips. Apply this everyday to get best results in healing your feeling lips.

4. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is pure oil which heals the dry and chapped lips within no time. Take some coconut oil and apply it all over the lips. The massaging will help to cure the peeling lips. Keep it overnight and wash in the morning. You can also apply some coconut oil on your lips first and then go ahead with your lipstick and other products. Application of coconut oil regularly also helps to cure the darkness and pigment red lip condition.

5. Rose Petals

Soak few rose petals in milk OR you can mash the rose petals in milk to make a paste like consistency. Apply this on your lips and keep it for 10-15 minutes then, wash it off. Pat dry with a soft towel and apply a lip balm or a lip moisturizer.

6. Glycerin

You can mix glycerin and rose water together and apply this mixture on your lips for 15 minutes. Glycerin softens the dry lips and rose water helps in healing the painful cracks.

7. Olive Oil

Applying olive oil every night before going to sleep gives you smooth lips the next day. Olive oil is rich in vitamin E and Omega 3 and 6 fatty acid that makes your lips smooth and beautiful. You can also make A Pinch of turmeric in one spoon of olive oil and apply it at night on your lips by gentle massaging. This treatment is amazing to lighten the lip pigmentation and chapped lips.

8. Sugar

Sugar is the best exfoliator to get rid of the dead cells and makes your lips naturally soft and pinkish. You can use grounded sugar and mix it honey or coconut oil with few drops of lemon juice. Massage it on your lips with your index finger or a baby toothbrush for few minutes. After that wash it and apply coconut oil or petroleum jelly on your lips. You can do this twice or thrice a week but, skip it if you have cracked lips.

9. Cucumber

Cucumbers are known to be soothing for burning eyes and helps in getting rid of dark circles too. Use the cucumbers slices and massage it on your lips for few minutes and let it stay for 10-15 minutes and then wash it off and apply a coconut oil. It is one of the quick and easy tips to follow. You can also add cucumbers to your diet; they are really great for your skin health.

10. Ghee

Mix little bit of ghee with a pinch of turmeric, mix it together and apply this mixture on your lips for few minutes then, wash it off. You can also massage your lips with ghee before going to bed and wash it the next morning. It helps in healing cracked lips. Regular use will help you in dealing with multiple dry lips problems.

11. Mustard Oil

You can massage your lips with mustard oil and also, apply it in your navel while going to sleep. I am not sure about the logic of applying it in the navel. But, in my case it has worked. It does give those smooth and moisturized lips.

What to do to keep lips smooth and supple

Apart from these one should take care of their nutrition deficiencies.

Keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water.

A good balanced diet is always recommended.

Citrus fruits should be included as it increases the collagen production and protects against sun damage.

Always remove your makeup before going to bed.

Use lip products with SPF in it, in day time.
